Steel String Acoustics
Yamaha’s acoustic guitar line started in the mid 1960’s with a handful of models called “Red Label” guitars. Known for their excellent quality and affordable pricing, they quickly found their way into the hands of a whole generation of musicians and music lovers who were in the midst of fuelling a revolution in music.

Soon Yamaha’s master craftsmen were producing high end models like the legendary FG-2000. These instruments caught the eyes and ears of some of the world class artists of the day, imparting a wealth of knowledge to our craftsmen that was applied throughout the product range and production line.

The popularity of instruments like the FG-2000 generated many requests for custom designs from world class artists. It was this response that led to the introduction of Yamaha’s L-Series guitars – a line of quality instruments designed and crafted to meet the critical demands of the professional musician – in the late 1970’s. The mid 80’s saw the line expand with variations like the LL, LS and LA series guitars. Later the LW became the seed for Yamaha’s acclaimed DW series.

Steel string acoustic guitars are flexible enough to play almost any musical style. They are especially prominent in the country, folk, rock and pop genres.

Classical Nylon String Acoustics
Making a guitar requires a high level of sensitivity and a deep dedication to the art. Yamaha master craftsmen possess those qualities and more. They have honed their skills to perfection and the results are obvious in the guitars they make.

Shellac finished instruments are the ultimate testament to this. Applied by hand it requires a process that involves 300 micro thin coatings of and all natural shellac over a period of 3 months. There are only a few craftsmen left in the world with that kind of dedication to perfection.

The deep, warm, mellow tone of nylon string guitars is instantly recogniseable in classical and flamenco music. The forgiving playability of nylon strings makes them a popular choice with many beginners.
