Blackburn High School House Music Presentation of New Yamaha E flat Tuba

Blackburn High School
House Music Presentation of New Yamaha E flat Tuba

For the 51st year in a row, Blackburn High School staged its annual House Music competition to a packed house at the school’s Beaumont Hall. The competition is a unique aspect of the school’s high-profile music program. For the first three weeks of each year – prior to ensembles commencing – this entirely student-run event is staged. All musical arrangements, choreography, and staging is organised by them to enormous audience acclaim.

The evening was also a very special occasion this year, with the presence of Yamaha Music Australia’s Band and Orchestral Instrument Product Manager, Carolyn Gannell, presenting a YEB 632 ‘Maestro’ Eb Tuba to the school, jointly with the support of the BHS Friends Of Music association.

This has been a year-long concerted fundraising exercise by the BHS Friends of Music, and through Yamaha Music Australia’s very generous donation for the remaining balance to boost some of the school‘s aging instruments.

Blackburn has used three Yamaha Eb tubas for over twenty five years – and they’re still seeing excellent service, but this has also been an opportunity to strengthen the nationally known program’s future.

The music program runs 24 major ensemble rehearsals a week, plus a further 18 student led weekly sectional rehearsals to support these groups. That means an enormous amount of hours are spent on these instruments.

We thank Yamaha Music Australia for its generosity in this enormous assistance to our instrumental program and look forward to continuing our association.
